We are running seven operation theatres round the clock. CMH Multan has a very well equipped ENT Department, geared to cater for diagnosis and management of whole range of ENT disorders. Most extensive oral, ear and nasal surgeries are done routinely. Head and Neck cancer salvage surgeries are done independently or taking the assistance of thoracic and plastic surgeons for reconstruction.


Audiological facilities range from latest audiogram, tympanogram and Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometer (BERA). Middle ear reconstructive surgeries like stapedectomy, myringoplasty and ossiculoplasty are done frequently. Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) and video assisted nasal surgeries are done with good results.

The department is fully recognized for FCPS Part II training and so far all the trainees trained here have cleared the exit examination.

CMH Multan Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is one of the oldest departments of CMH and is providing medical and surgical services to the people of southern Punjab for several years. Philosophy of the department has always been to provide superior care from fewer consultations and provide access to more than one service during a single visit. The department also has state of the art equipment and facilities. Based on the immense expertise of physicians and latest facilities, the department offers sophisticated services of medical and surgical care.

Full fledged maternity services provide excellent care to mothers and newborns. It caters to more than 4000 deliveries per year. Gynecology services are run at both preventive and therapeutic levels. In addition to conventional surgery, facilities for minimally invasive surgery also exist. The department caters for all referral cases from peripheries of Southern Punjab.


Improving community health is our foremost priority where students from fourth year will be involved in community based projects of preventing disease and improving women health.

The department is fully recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan for post graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and midwifery training. Obstetrics and Gynecology courses are designed to educate students about reproductive physiology, endocrinology and management of high risk pregnancies and deliveries.

The Department of Medicine at CMH Multan has a long history of being manned by eminent physicians of significant repute in the country and abroad. It is a pivotal department which carries the load of large number of patients from Southern Punjab.

It is the focal point of a wide range of clinical and academic services and is recognized for postgraduate FCPS training in medicine as well as house job training.

The department manages a 10 bedded Intensive Care Unit/ Coronary Care Unit (ICU/ CCU) and a 10 bedded heavy dependency unit in addition to 180 general medical beds in 4 medical wards for males and females.

The department comprises of the following subunits:



The Section of Internal Medicine coordinates the inpatient medical ward activities as well as outpatient consultation services. It provides specialized treatment in cases of infectious diseases, nutrition, and general internal medicine, endocrinology, rheumatology etc.

In hospital consultation services are provided to allied departments like Surgery and Obs/Gyne both in ambulatory and inpatient settings. The department is recognized by CPSP for fellowship certification in medicine (FCPS).


The Critical Care Medicine at CMH Multan is well developed because its location necessitates a standalone facility. The ICU/ CCU are very well equipped with facilities for management of all kinds of cases.

All beds have Cardiac and NIBP with oxymetric monitoring. Facility for CVP monitoring is also available. Bedsides arterial gas measurement and emergency pacemaker facility are available as well. The department has capability to provide lifesaving ventilation facility to 4 patients simultaneously. Options for both invasive as well as non invasive ventilation like NIV, CPAP, BiPaP are available. Bedside radiologic as well as ultrasound and echocardiographic assessment is done routinely in ICU.

The Cardiology department provides complete and comprehensive care to patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. The Section utilizes a well developed Coronary Care Unit (CCU) for patients requiring intensive care and a Step-Down Unit (HNC) designed for cardiac patients requiring an intermediate level of care.

Diagnostic services like Trans-thoracic 2-D echocardiography and exercise tolerance testing (ETT) are available. Implantation of temporary cardiac pacemaker in emergency is possible in department.

This service manages patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, restrictive lung disease, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary tuberculosis and other infections, pleural effusion and other diseases of the chest.

Diagnostic services include pulmonary function testing (PFT), fibreoptic bronchoscopy, and High resolution CT scanning of Chest. Intensive care management, of patients requiring ventilation is done by this service.


The section caters for a large number of patients presenting to the outpatient clinics and emergency rooms. The section provides diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which include esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy, endoscopic variceal sclerotherapy, endoscopic band ligation, colonoscopy and polypectomies etc.

The Section of Neurology offers comprehensive specialty consultation in both outpatient and inpatient settings for management of congenital and acquired diseases of central and peripheral nervous system disorders. The ward comprises of a ten bedded pediatric intensive care unit with capability to ventilate and monitor infants and children. It also has a 40 bedded general ward.

Eye department of CMH Multan is a well equipped, technologically advanced tertiary care facility committed to provide ophthalmic care to people of South Punjab.

Basic and clinical knowledge of ophthalmology will be imparted to medical students in a step ladder fashion commencing with anatomy, physiology, pathology and history taking in third year of MBBS. In fourth year the students will move on to learn clinical examination in relation to common ophthalmic ailments. Final year would bring learning of advance diagnostic and interventional techniques employed in eye disorders. We have a very modern and state of the art Radiology department in the Combined Military Hospital Multan, affiliated with the CIMS. We have a fully functional 1.5 Tesla MRI and a multi-slice CT scanner. We have a Mammography machine which is very rare in whole of the southern Punjab. Our two latest high quality digital radiography machines are serving the hospital and whole of Multan city with their high quality digital radiographs. Our Fluoroscopy and Doppler ultrasound machines have outclassed the rest of the hospitals of the city in contrast and Doppler diagnostic studies. The Surgical division of CMH Multan is an advanced 200 bedded unit of hospital. It constitutes department of General Surgery, Urology, Pediatric Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Orthopedics, each headed by a senior and highly qualified specialists.

The surgical load is quite heavy and comprises of an outpatient attendance of approximately 50000 patients per year. This includes major surgeries of about 4500 cases and minor procedures of approximately 7000 cases per year. State of art procedures like advanced orthopedics, reconstructive surgery, video assisted thoracic surgeries, minimally invasive procedures like arthoscopy, laparoscopic surgeries and endo-urology etc are being carried out routinely.

The Department of Orthopedics CMH Multan provides state-of-the-art care to patients of all age groups.

The average outdoor work load is about 12000 patients per annum whereas the indoor cases are more than 2000 per year. Approximately 960 major and 1500 day care surgeries are carried out annually. The available clinical expertise combined with cutting-edge state of the art equipment and technology available, enables this unit to extent excellent services to its dependent clientele for a wide range of orthopedic disorders and injuries. The center is busy round the clock in performing advanced orthopedic procedures like trauma surgery, deformity corrections and reconstructions, minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis, anatomically contoured locked compression plate fixations, interlocking nailing, arthoplasties, diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopies and pediatric orthopedics etc. The orthopedic department in addition is also actively engaged in CME activities and training of junior internees, house surgeons, FCPS trainees and paramedics.
